In Umkhanyelo weGolide, Samantha Maseko builds a luminous portrait through oil and acrylic paint, gold and rose-gold dust, lace and brown paper. The metallic surface catches and redirects light, while the lace introduces associations of adornment, intimacy and inherited forms of beauty. Through this layered material language, Maseko presents the subject with dignity and presence, turning the portrait into both a personal image and a celebration of Black femininity.
Produced in Oil paint, acrylic paint, gold dust, rose-gold dust and lace on brown paper. The work is presented as supplied by the artist and documented by Perspective Art.
The work is provisionally recorded as 50cm x 50cm pending final measurement. Its mixed-media surface and metallic elements shift subtly with changing light. It is sold unframed and should be presented behind appropriate protective glazing.
