Phillip Mabote is a South African artist and printmaker whose work is known for its bold symbolic language, strong graphic contrast and layered use of text, pattern and image. Working primarily in linocut, Mabote creates compositions that explore identity, memory, social pressure, childhood and the stories people inherit or construct about themselves. His work often carries the feeling of a visual poem, where figures, symbols and words operate together.
